This site is dedicated to offering information on the Chiquita Canyon Landfill's past, present, and future. There are many articles and tools on this site that will help you become involved in the proposed Chiquita Canyon Landfill expansion.

Chiquita Canyon Landfill is seeking a new Conditional Use Permit from the County of Los Angeles Department of Regional Planning to massively increase the size of the landfill. If approved, the landfill will more than double its daily waste intake from 5,000 to 12,000 tons, roughly double its waste footprint to 400 acres, and extend 133 feet in the air reaching their maximum elevation of 1,573 feet.[2]

Current and proposed scale of landfill with Dodgers Stadium to scale to represent the scope of this project.

We believe this proposal should be challenged based on many different concerns but the main reason being its direct violation of an agreement decided in 1997 between the landfill (grandfathered in by laidlaw waste systems), the residents of Val Verde via the Val Verde Civic Association and Newhall Land and Farming TO NEVER EXPAND AGAIN. This agreement is included in the current Conditional Use Permit (CUP) issued by the County of Los Angeles.

If this proposal passes, the rights of Val Verde residents will be violated by not only the landfill but the County of Los Angeles.
